Whether your eyelid correction is reimbursed by the insurer does not depend on your insurer, but on the type of treatment and the extent to which it bothers you. However, an upper eyelid correction is a cosmetic procedure and is not reimbursed. There are exceptions, but this is rare.
A lower eyelid correction (where the eyelid turns in or out) falls under basic care and is therefore reimbursed.
Because we are a non-contracted healthcare provider, we do not declare the care for you to the health insurer. In principle, you must pay for the care provided at the counter immediately after your appointment by means of a debit card payment, unless other agreements have been made with you. So you first pay for the treatment yourself. You can then submit the invoice you receive from us to your health insurer. What you get back from your health insurer depends on your insurance conditions.
Whether there are risks with an eyelid correction depends on many factors. In our focus clinic in Zwolle we work extremely accurately, so we are specialists. However, every procedure carries risks. With upper eyelid correction, the chance of complications is small, but it is not impossible. For example, you may experience dry or watery eyes. These complaints are generally only temporary. During the free and non-binding consultation (prior to the operation), the risks will be discussed with you.
Whether the result of an eyelid correction remains visible for a long time partly has to do with the recovery process, but because with an eyelid correction we remove the excess skin and fat above or below your eyelids, this normally has a long-lasting effect. In general, an eyelid correction is a one-off procedure. It may happen that after about 10 years the skin has aged so much that the drooping eyelids return, in which case a second treatment is possible. However, this does not happen often.
An upper and lower eyelid correction at the same time is sometimes possible, but it is often wise to have the upper eyelid correction performed first. After upper eyelid correction you can often better assess whether a lower eyelid correction is still necessary.
We like to see our patients come for a check-up after the operation. After three days you will be called by one of our assistants to ask how the first days after the operation went. You will return to our clinic 6-7 days after the operation to remove the stitches, then we will also assess the wound. You must return again after two months so that we can assess the optimal end result with you.
To determine whether an eyelid correction is suitable for you, we recommend that you first visit the clinic before the procedure for a free, no-obligation consultation. The surgeon carries out a facial analysis to see whether you are suitable for an eyelid correction. You will also receive all information about the eyelid correction, the risks and the costs. This way you know in advance where you stand.
In most cases you can go home half an hour after the operation, provided you feel well. Make sure there is someone to take you home, because you are not allowed to drive or cycle yourself. Public transport may be possible. In that case, you can take sunglasses with you so that the wound is also well protected from sunlight.

You can start administrative work again three days after the treatment. If you perform physical work or work in healthcare or the catering industry, we recommend that you do not work for the first week. For example, you should not bend over and lift heavy things, as this will put too much pressure on the stitches. This results in delayed healing.

Exercising after eyelid correction is possible approximately one week after treatment. You most likely feel this well yourself. Intensive exercise is possible after approximately two weeks. Keep in mind that starting exercise too early can also have a negative effect on the recovery process. Swimming is allowed again after the stitches have been removed.
The stitches can be removed after 6 to 7 days, this is done during the follow-up check-up at our clinic. This is included in the costs.
Yes! Cooling after surgery is a very important part of a good recovery. During the first three days the swelling will increase and you can slow down this process with frequent cooling.
It is important to get enough rest to allow the wound to heal. We recommend that you do not carry out any work for the first 24 hours. Most people take a week off after the procedure. 6-7 days after the procedure you will come to the clinic to remove the stitches. A few months after the procedure, the scars will be virtually invisible.
We do not recommend putting on make-up during the first week, but you can start doing so again after this first week.
We advise you not to shower 24 hours after the operation. You can then shower again, but we recommend keeping the wound dry. If it does get wet, you can pat the wound dry. We also advise you not to shower for too long and too hot due to the water vapour.
We do not recommend driving after an eyelid correction, which is why we also indicate during the consultation that you will take someone with you during the treatment. The eyelids are swollen after the procedure and this affects your vision.

After the correction of your upper eyelids, the area around your eyes is swollen and bruising is sometimes visible. Fluid pockets may also appear under your lower eyelids. We secure the stitches with plasters. You must leave these in place until you return to our clinic to have the stitches removed.
The surgeon operates in such a way that the scar falls into the skin fold after the procedure. This makes the scar minimally visible.
