What is eyelid surgery
Eyelid surgery is a medical or cosmetic procedure in which the surgeon removes excess skin and fat near the eyelids. Excess skin is also called dermatochalazis. Among other things, these droopy eyelids can give you a tired look.
Complaints consistent with drooping eyelids
Droopy eyelids can make you look older, and applying makeup can be tricky. In addition, it can cause the following complaints:
- Tired eyes/vision
- Reduced field of vision
- Difficulty wearing glasses
- Reading complaints
- Headache complaints
- Tearing eyes
Old age and smoking are the biggest causes of droopy eyelids, however, it can also be genetic (familiar) or fit a physical condition. Furthermore, frequent exposure to UV radiation (tanning beds), can cause skin sagging and skin excess.

How does eyelid surgery work
Are you suitable?
After careful examination, we will first determine if you qualify for eyelid surgery. If you are suitable, a surgery date will be scheduled with you. Surgery days are usually thursday and saturday. This can be deviated from by mutual agreement.
You will be taken care of
The day of the procedure, you will be met by the physician’s assistant, who will accompany you to the treatment room.
Operation area sign off
The surgical area is marked off. This is the most important step of the procedure because the better we can delineate the better the result.
The intervention
The procedure takes place under local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes. During the procedure, you will be awake and the doctor will tell you (if you wish) about the progress of the procedure.
Cooling mask
After the procedure, you can relax and we will give you a cooling mask. This cooling will ensure that you recover as quickly as possible after the procedure. It is important to refrigerate well for the first 3 days. For this, you will receive instruction from the physician’s assistant. Proper and regular cooling is essential for proper recovery.
Sutures out
One week after the procedure, you will return for removal of the sutures. A clear difference can already be seen, but the final result is visible after 6 to 8 weeks.

Whether an eyelid correction hurts varies per person, but in general we hear from our patients that it was virtually painless. The local anesthesia you receive may be experienced as unpleasant, but here too we hear few or no complaints about it. After upper eyelid correction, you may experience mild after-pain that resembles the feeling of a graze wound. Paracetamol is generally not necessary, but you can take it to relieve the complaint.
After the correction of your upper eyelids, the area around your eyes is swollen and bruising is sometimes visible. Fluid pockets may also appear under your lower eyelids. We secure the stitches with plasters. You must leave these in place until you return to our clinic to have the stitches removed.
The procedure takes 30-45 minutes.
No, our eye surgeon works with a local anesthetic. This means that only the area around your eyes is anesthetized during the treatment. This means you can go home quickly after the treatment and you will not experience nausea as a result of the anesthesia. You also do not need to fast before the treatment.
At Looks Clinics you pay only € 1.450 for an upper eyelid correction for both eyes. For a lower eyelid correction you pay only € 1.599 for both eyes. The price you pay includes the associated aftercare and checks. So you know in advance exactly what the cost of eyelid surgery will be.
